A COMMITTED ADVENTURE

The Ocean Peak association is made up of passionate sportsmen who work for the reintegration of young people in great difficulty.

Through breakaway stays at sea and in the mountains and discovery weekends, the association supports young people from the child welfare system and from the priority districts of the city around La Rochelle.

However, since the creation of the association 4 years ago, « the lack of access to a boat has been a hindrance to the development of our actions » for Marta, founder of the association. The project « Le Voilier Solidaire » was born to meet this challenge.

THE PROJECT « LE VOILIER SOLIDAIRE »

The project emerged thanks to Nicolas Chanteloup who donated his boat « Sainte Anne » to the association and who is now in charge of the renovation yard. « I lived on this boat for 10 years with my own children and it was important to me to see this boat continue its history ».

The renovation of this boat began with the financial support of the Decathlon Foundation and the human support of the Decathlon Tribord teams. To do this, participative workcamps open to all are organized every month.

The boat is scheduled to be launched in spring 2023.  « Our young people are going to live a crazy experience on the boat. You have to be in a team to make it work and teamwork is one of the keys to the success of our projects! » Marta, Ocean Peak.

Through the adventures at sea, some young people discover a vocation. For example, a 15 year old who came three times is now an intern in a sailmaker’s shop. In addition, in order to open up the professional horizons of these young people in relation to sport, the Decathlon Tribord teams organize workshops to help them discover the site and all the jobs related to the design and conception of sports products.

– Why did Tribord want to join the adventure?

« Sailing is by definition quite inaccessible, due to its complexity, technicality and cost. I immediately fell in love with Marta’s project and what she is doing through Ocean Peak to make this sport accessible. For the Tribord site, it’s very interesting to work with an association that has strong local roots, we can witness the impact of our actions on the beneficiaries. »

– Why did you want to get involved in this project?

« I have sailed a lot in my life and I wanted to give more meaning to my passion for sailing, to be useful. The « big brother » attitude is quite natural for me and I have a good feeling with the young people. »

– What do you remember about the breakaway trip you participated in?

« When you sail with Ocean Peak, you get into a virtuous circle that is quite incredible. The values of the project are so beautiful and universal that the young people quickly feel at ease. We are lucky enough to be able to sail on incredible boats, the people we meet are in a state of mind of generosity and fraternity. »

– What is the role of sailing in the integration of young people?

« The boat’s support creates a small microcosm, which can be removed from « civilization ». It’s up to us to put in place the benevolence, the listening and all the ingredients that will allow young people to blossom. It is a sport that makes people dream and we sail with sailors who have inspiring stories to tell.  The young people take ownership of this culture and are very proud of it.

Une aventure engagée

L’association Ocean Peak, ce sont des sportifs passionnés qui oeuvrent pour la réinsertion de jeunes en grande difficulté.

A travers des séjours de rupture en mer et en montagne et des week-end découverte, l’association accompagne les jeunes de l’aide sociale à l’enfance et de quartiers prioritaires de la ville autour de la Rochelle.

Seulement, depuis la création de l’association il y a 4 ans « le non accès à un bateau constituait un frein au développement de nos actions » pour Marta, fondatrice de l’association. Le projet « Le Voilier Solidaire » voit alors le jour pour relever ce challenge.

Le projet émerge grâce à Nicolas Chanteloup qui fait don de son bateau « Sainte Anne » à l’association et qui est aujourd’hui responsable du chantier de rénovation. « J’ai vécu sur ce bateau pendant 10 ans avec mes propres enfants et ça me tenait à coeur de voir ce bateau poursuivre son histoire. »

Débute alors la rénovation de ce bateau avec le soutien financier de la Fondation Decathlon et le soutien humain des équipes de Decathlon Tribord. Pour ce faire, des chantiers participatifs ouverts à tous sont organisés chaque mois.

La mise en mer du bateau est prévue pour printemps 2023.  « Nos jeunes ils vont vivre une expérience de dingue sur le bateau. Il faut être en équipe pour le faire marcher et le travail en équipe, c’est une des clés de la réussite de nos projets ! » Marta, Ocean Peak.

A travers les aventures en mer, certains jeunes se découvrent une vocation. A titre, d’exemple, un jeune de 15 ans, venu 3 fois en séjour, est désormais en stage dans une voilerie. En outre, afin d’ouvrir les horizons professionnelles de ces jeunes en lien avec le sport, les équipes de Decathlon Tribord organisent des ateliers pour faire découvrir le site et tous les métiers liés au design et à la conception de produits sportifs.

– Pourquoi Tribord a souhaité rejoindre l’aventure ?

« La voile est par définition assez inaccessible, de par la complexité, la technicité et le coût. J’ai tout de suite accroché avec le projet de Marta et ce qu’elle véhicule à travers Ocean Peak pour rendre ce sport accessible. Pour le site de Tribord, c’est très intéressant de travailler un ancrage local fort avec une association, on peut être témoins de l’impact de nos actions sur les bénéficiaires. »

– Pourquoi tu as voulu t’engager dans ce projet ?

« J’ai beaucoup navigué dans ma vie, et j’avais envie de donner plus de sens à ma passion pour la voile, être utile. La posture de « grand frère » est assez naturelle chez moi et le courant passe bien avec les jeunes. »

– Qu’est-ce que tu retiens du séjour de rupture auquel tu as participé ?

« Quand on navigue avec Ocean peak, on rentre dans un cercle vertueux assez incroyable. Les valeurs du projet sont tellement belles et universelles que les jeunes se sentent vite à l’aise. On a la chance de pouvoir naviguer sur des bateaux incroyables, les personnes que l’on rencontre sont dans un état d’esprit de générosité de fraternité. »

– Quel est le rôle de la voile dans l’insertion des jeunes ?

« Le support du bateau crée un petit microcosme, que l’on peut éloigner de la « civilisation ». C’est à nous d’y mettre la bienveillance l’écoute et tout les ingrédients qui font que les jeunes vont pouvoir s’épanouir. C’est un sport qui fait rêver et on navigue avec des marins qui ont des histoires inspirantes à raconter.  Les jeunes s’approprient cette culture et en sont très fiers. »

Nous avons hâte de voir le bateau naviguer aux alentours de la Rochelle avec les jeunes !
