MIRATUS, UN ÉCRIN POUR GRAINES DE CHAMPIONS

13 ans déjà ! Une longue et belle histoire, plein de rêves réalisés et de destins changés. Et je suis sûre que ce n’est pas fini ! 

Je m’appelle Gwenaëlle Maitre, j’ai 47 ans et cette belle aventure a commencé un beau jour de Février 2007 à Rio de Janeiro (Brésil) lorsque j’ai rencontré pour la première fois, Sebastião Dias de Oliveira, Fondateur de l’ONG Miratus, un projet bénévole enseignant le Badminton aux enfants de Chacrinha, une favela à l’ouest de la ville de Rio.

Quelques semaines auparavant, un reportage à la télévision brésilienne sur le projet avait attiré mon attention et c’est ainsi que j’ai décidé d’aller découvrir les choses sur place. J’avais à l’époque 11 ans d’entreprise, j’étais directrice financière de Decathlon Brésil et je vivais depuis 8 ans à Sao Paulo, mégalopole brésilienne située à 500 km de Rio (ville ou nous n’avions alors pas encore d’activités).

La suite a, comme j’ai l’habitude de le dire, été une boule de neige (ou plutôt d’énergie) gigantesque ! En un peu plus de 18 mois, toute l’équipe brésilienne a entendu parlé du projet Miratus, plus de 50 décathloniens ont visité l’association, Artengo (marque passion Tennis) a fourni de grandes quantités de matériel et la Fondation Decathlon a validé son premier soutien, pour former des jeunes éducateurs et changer le revêtement du gymnase afin que celui-ci soit adapté à la pratique du sport. Et le 18 octobre 2008, Miratus a inauguré ses nouveaux terrains, lors d’une fête organisée par les bénévoles de la Fondation. Géant comme vous pourrez le voir dans ce reportage fait à l’époque par la Fondation Decathlon.

Presque 12 ans plus tard, cela pourrait être une belle histoire du passé surtout lorsque l’on sait comme il est difficile pour ces projets de survivre au fil des ans. Et bien non ce n’est pas « du passé ». Les défis continuent certes (actuellement Miratus se bat pour trouver de nouveaux soutiens pour son année 2020) mais la belle histoire entre Miratus et Decathlon également et la liste de conquêtes de l’association ne cesse de croitre ! Pour n’en citer que quelques uns, 

• Miratus est devenue, au fil des ans la plus grande pépinière de champions de badminton du Brésil. En 12 ans, plus de 75 médailles aux Championnats Panaméricains Jr (45% des médailles du Brésil et 65% des médailles d’or de celui-ci !)

• Ygor et Lohaynny, 2 des jeunes de Miratus, qui avaient 12 ans à l’époque de l’inauguration du complexe sportif en 2008, ont été les 2 premiers brésiliens de l’histoire à participer à des Jeux Olympiques en Badminton à Rio en 2016 et cela non pas parce que le Brésil avait droit à une place. Ils ont conquis leur place grâce à leur talent.

• Ygor s’est ensuite envolé. A 23 ans aujourd’hui, il parle couramment anglais, est parmi les 50 meilleurs joueurs du monde et vit au Danemark, l’un des pays les plus reconnus au niveau du Badminton ou il joue dans l’une des meilleures équipes du pays. C’est un grand ambassadeur de Miratus et de Dectathlon et un fidèle et fier partenaire technique de Perfly depuis 12 ans.

• Jonathan, 20 ans, est sur les traces d’Ygor. Il vient de passer 3 mois au Danemark avec lui et est désormais décidé à devenir lui aussi l’un des meilleurs joueurs de Badminton de la planète.

• Renan et Pedro travaillent dans le magasin Decathlon de Barra qui a déjà vu passer une dizaine de jeunes au cours de ses dernières années et leur a donné à tous de belles valeurs pour la vie.

• Et comme Jonathan, toutes les générations qui cotoient ces exemples, se remplissent d’espoir en voyant leurs conquêtes et se mettent à penser que finalement peut être qu’eux aussi peuvent réussir à réaliser leur rêves. Et c’est ainsi que la boule de neige continue de grandir !

La Fondation Decathlon peut être très fière du travail accompli par tous ses bénévoles! Et comme je le disais au début, je suis certaine que ce n’est pas fini ! Rendez-vous dans 5 ans ! »

Voici un petit retour en 2008, à la rencontre de l’association MIRATUS !

13 years already! A long and beautiful story, full of realized dreams and changed destinies. And I’m sure it’s not over!

My name is Gwenaëlle Maitre, I am 47 years old and this great adventure started one day in February 2007 in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) when I met for the first time, Sebastião Dias de Oliveira, Founder of the NGO Miratus, a voluntary project teaching Badminton to the children of Chacrinha, a favela of the city of Rio.

A few weeks before, a media coverage on Brazilian television on the project and that is how I decided to go find out there. At the time I had 11 years of business, I was financial director of Decathlon Brazil and I lived for 8 years in Sao Paulo, Brazilian megalopolis located 500 km from Rio (city where we had not yet ‘activities).

The result was, as I used to say, a gigantic snowball (or rather of energy)! In just over 18 months, the entire Brazilian team has heard of the Miratus project, more than 50 Decathlon teammates have visited the association, Artengo has provided large quantities of equipment and the Decathlon Foundation has validated its first support, to train young educators and change the surface of the gymnasium so that it is suitable for the practice of sport. And on October 18, 2008, Miratus inaugurated its new grounds, at a party organized by Foundation volunteers. 

Almost 12 years later, it could be a great story from the past especially when you know how difficult it is for these projects to survive over the years. Well, it is not « from the past ». The challenges certainly continue (currently Miratus is fighting to find new support for its year 2020) but the great story between Miratus and Decathlon also continues  and the list of conquests of the association continues to grow! To only cite a few,

Miratus has become, over the years, the largest nursery for badminton champions in Brazil. In 12 years, more than 75 medals at the Pan American  Championships (45% of the medals of Brazil and 65% of the gold medals of this one!)

Ygor and Lohaynny, 2 of the young people of Miratus, who were 12 years old at the time of the inauguration of the sports complex in 2008, were the first 2 Brazilians in history to participate in the Olympic Games in Badminton in Rio in 2016. They won their place thanks to their talent.

Ygor then flew away. At 23 years old today, he speaks fluent English, is among the 50 best players in the world and lives in Denmark, one of the most recognized countries in Badminton where he plays in one of the best teams in the country. He is a great ambassador for Miratus and Decathlon and a loyal and proud technical partner of Perfly for 12 years.

Jonathan, 20, is on the trail of Ygor. He has just spent 3 months in Denmark with him and is now determined to become one of the best Badminton players on the planet.

Renan and Pedro work in the Decathlon store in Barra, which has already seen a dozen young people pass by in its last years and has given them all great values ​​for life.

And like Jonathan, all the generations who share these examples, fill themselves with hope when they see their conquests and start to think that ultimately maybe they too can succeed in achieving their dreams. And this is how the snowball continues to grow!

The Decathlon Foundation can be very proud of the work accomplished by all of its volunteers!

And like I said at the start, I’m sure it’s not over! See you in 5 years!
